The Sindh Food Authority (SFA), in collaboration with the University of Karachi, has completed the analysis of tea samples collected during an anti-adulteration campaign. Following lab reports that confirmed the presence of harmful substances, SFA has imposed fines totaling Rs. 1.5 million on 50 tea vendors across the city.

According to SFA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, the crackdown follows the detection of hazardous chemicals such as artificial colors and polyphenols in tea samples. “We will not tolerate adulteration. Strict legal action is being taken against those found guilty,” said Siddiqui.

In May, the SFA collected 110 tea samples from various parts of Karachi as part of a citywide campaign against adulterated food products. The findings were verified through a joint testing initiative with the University of Karachi’s lab facilities.

Legal proceedings have also been initiated against major tea dealers allegedly involved in large-scale adulteration. “We’ve approached the courts to take action against key players behind this crime,” added Siddiqui. “Those involved in adulterating tea and milk will be brought to justice.”
