The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has strongly condemned what it describes as a “baseless and malicious” news report published in the daily Metropolitan, calling it a deliberate attempt to malign the institution and intimidate its officials through blackmail.

In an official statement, the SBCA clarified that the report contains false allegations and is part of a targeted campaign orchestrated by the newspaper’s Chief Editor, Zawar Hussain Sheikh. According to the Authority, its officials have received threatening calls demanding extortion of up to Rs. 1 million per month — a claim supported by concrete evidence currently under review.

“The SBCA is fully committed to upholding the law and is executing a comprehensive operation against illegal constructions in Karachi,” said the spokesperson. “These operations are carried out strictly according to SOPs under the leadership of the Director General. Any attempt to obstruct this process or defame our officers will be dealt with according to the law.”

The SBCA has formally approached the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, Sindh Information Department, and the Karachi Police Chief, requesting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against those involved. The case has also been escalated to the Minister for Information and other relevant government bodies, along with documented evidence including press clippings of the false report.

Reaffirming its stance, the Authority emphasized it will not tolerate media blackmail or character assassination of its officers and reserves the right to pursue all legal avenues.
