Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, met with industrialists in the SITE Area, Haroonabad, where he briefed them on major sewerage treatment and water-recycling projects being developed to supply industries with sustainable, uninterrupted water.
During a detailed visit to the SITE Limited Sewerage Treatment Plant, the Mayor said that—for the first time in Karachi’s history—a structured system is being introduced to treat wastewater and recycle it specifically for industrial use.
TP-III Mauripur Operational Again
He shared that the long-inactive TP-III treatment plant in Mauripur has been restored and made operational. At the same time, after 25 years, full cleaning and rehabilitation work has been completed at the TP-I Haroonabad plant. Construction at the second TP-I facility near the SITE Industrial Area is also moving quickly.
Phase One to Be Completed by December 31
In the first phase, the project aims to treat 20 MGD of water at the secondary level and recycle 1 million gallons per day for industries.
Environmental Protection a Key Priority
A major goal of the initiative is to stop untreated wastewater from flowing into the sea, helping protect marine life and comply with international environmental standards and SDGs.
High Hopes for Pakistan’s First Industrial Water Park
Karachi’s industries need nearly 150 MGD of water daily. Mayor Wahab said this project will significantly support that demand and could pave the way for Pakistan’s first-ever “Industrial Water Park.”
He emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party government is taking serious steps to ensure a safe, stable, and quality-controlled water supply, adding that the project will become a cornerstone of Karachi’s industrial expansion and long-term economic stability.
