The month of Muharram-ul-Haram will be observed across Karachi with deep religious devotion and respect. Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has directed all Deputy Commissioners to finalize arrangements in coordination with religious scholars, clerics, and procession organizers to ensure smooth and peaceful observances.
In compliance with the Commissioner’s directives, Deputy Commissioners have devised emergency plans within their respective districts for Muharram. These plans have already been submitted to the Commissioner, and control rooms have been set up to maintain continuous communication with organizers and relevant departments.
As per details, the Karachi administration has decided that foolproof security will be provided to processions and Majalis with the cooperation of police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies. Special measures are being put in place for Ashura (10th of Muharram), including comprehensive planning for the main procession routes.
Commissioner Naqvi has instructed all concerned departments to take priority measures regarding:
• Alternative traffic arrangements
• Sanitation and civic facilities
• Road maintenance
• Water supply
• Installation and repair of street lights
Furthermore, K-Electric has been instructed to avoid load-shedding at key locations of Majalis and processions, especially on the day of Ashura.
To review the preparations, Additional Commissioner Karachi-I, Ghulam Mehdi Shah, held a high-level meeting at the Commissioner’s Office on the instructions of Commissioner Naqvi. The meeting was attended by senior officers from Police, Rangers, Traffic Police, municipal bodies, town administrations, Water Corporation, Cantonment Boards, and other related departments.
Deputy Commissioners joined the session via video link and presented detailed updates on their local plans and coordination efforts.
The Karachi Commissioner emphasized that all departments must coordinate closely with Deputy Commissioners to ensure smooth execution of all arrangements during Muharram.
